Many people are guilty of having Dr. Google on standby for common issues like stomach pains in the middle of the night. This has caused many to analyze even the most minuscule symptoms. This is how the term cyberchondria was coined by a journalist in the London Sunday Times in 2000. Cyberchondria is a term is who used for individuals who falsely believe that they’re suffering from a disease that they read about on the internet. I’ll even admit that I have been guilty of turning to “Dr. Google” in the past. This only resulted in unnecessary emergency room visits, anxiety, and medical bills all because of the convenience of Google. That is why I have learned to stop Googling everything. Some may rely on Google to self-diagnose and self-treat their symptoms to avoid seeking medical attention.
There are a number of reasons that play a factor in why some avoid seeking professional medical attention. Some of the reasons could include the cost, lack of transportation, not having a babysitter, not being able to get an appointment sooner, or the wait time at the doctor’s office, to name a few. Google may be convenient for those who want to seek out immediate medical advice, but Google is not a reliable or certified doctor. Google is like a so-called friend that you turn to for advice, yet they make you feel worse instead of better more often than not.
Consult from the Comfort of Your Home with Amwell
This is where Amwell comes into play! It is a fast, convenient, affordable, easy, and reliable medical app that provides care when you need it. Care is at your service for your medical needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week; whether you’re at work, traveling, or in your home. With phone, tablet, or computer, you can video chat with a board-certified doctor without leaving the comfort of your own home. Amwell shows a list of doctors that are available at your fingertips! Some of the doctors are even available in the evenings as well as on weekends.
The doctors can help address a myriad of issues. Some of these issues include anxiety, headaches, weight concerns, urinary tract infection, depression, sinus infection, sore throat, sleep issues, or any minor ailment or illness, among others. You can rest assured that you’ll be receiving quality health care. You’ll be pleased that their doctors are not just professional and knowledgeable, but they’re also friendly!
This season, the flu, colds, and stomach bugs have been spreading like wildfire throughout the community. With a Midwestern fall and winter, you get a myriad of weather changes. One day you’ve got a warm rain-storm in with temperatures in the 70s, and then the next day you have a winter storm mix with temperatures below freezing. For my children, these quick temperature changes usually spark sinus issues, including nose bleeds.
My oldest son, 11, seems to be prone to a nosebleed everytime a quick drop in temperature comes about. My daughter also will have a nosebleed once in awhile, but with her, at 5 years old she has developed a deep anxiety for the possibility of getting another nosebleed. She gets worried anytime she gets a sniffle. Well, this has become an issue going from trying to comfort her anxiety to almost a level of slight annoyance at being asked every few minutes “Is my nose bleeding?” whenever she has a runny nose. Instead of making an appointment with her pediatrician over something so minuscule, I can connect with a doctor via Amwell without leaving my home or being concerned with another huge medical bill! I’ve used their service in the past when I needed sound advice concerning sleep deprivation and anxiety.
Selecting a doctor via the app is simple and easy. Last week, my husband chose the doctor that he wanted to speak to and was able to connect with him via video conference. My husband explained to the doctor about our daughter’s anxiety about nosebleeds. He wanted to know what we could do to help alleviate her fears. Since we recently moved into a new home, my husband also wanted to know what steps we could take to help stagnate or eliminate conditions in the home that could lead to more sinus issues. The doctor provided advice on cleaning air filters and ducts regularly, which is something that we already do. He also advised keeping the air as moist to avoid nasal dryness since nasal dryness can cause nosebleeds.
To help eliminate my daughter’s constant fear of getting a nosebleed, the doctor also suggested purchasing an aromatherapy diffuser and diffusing lavender essential oil. The smell of lavender is a natural aromatherapy component that induces calmness when suppressed by nervous exhaustion that anxiety carries. We were told to periodically place some lavender essential oil on her neck around pressure points.
My husband and I went out and bought some lavender essential oil and not only did it seem to help with our daughter’s anxiety, but it also provided us a sense of serenity that we needed after a big move. I highly recommend Amwell when you need an expert doctor without a costly medical bill showing up in the mailbox. Amwell can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

I started using AmWell about a year ago, and I never looked back. It’s so much more convenient than going to a brick and mortar office, and the doctors are ultra qualified.

There have been times that I can count on one hand that I’ve googled symptoms, and I had to close the browser because what I was being told I had was WAY off base! I think Amwell sounds like an awesome app for managing your and your family’s health.
A friend of mine was very sick a couple weeks ago and she did not want to go into the doctor. I told her about it AMWell and she never looked back. I think from now on she is always going to use that doctor.
I’ve never heard of AmWell as I am in Canada 😉 BUT, I love that the doctor recommended Lavender oil!
We have a similar service in Canada, well in Toronto that is “free”(we pay it in taxes!) thanks to our healthcare.
What a convenient service to have, especially when you have kids. We spend a lot of money having to make trips to the doctor’s office and it would be nice to save the time and hassle of having to make an appointment. I had no idea a service like this existed!

Such a lifesaver especially with multiple kids in your home. I don’t have to lug 3 siblings along when 1 is sick. Less chaos and stress and the other kids won’t get any germs from the waiting rooms
Yes I love Amwell. I used Amwell just a couple of weeks ago to help with a cold that didn’t seem to go away. I really recommend it, especially if you don’t have insurance.
Ohh that’s handy! For the most part, we’re all fairly healthy – but having something like this to consult would be helpful! My son is getting older, but he’s still got several years with me – and well – he will deny deny deny in order to not have to see a doctor in person
I love the idea of Amwell. My current doctor does an online deal similar to this and I have loved it so far.
So true! I google a symptom and the worse thing comes up leaving me paranoid. This product seems great.
I haven’t used Amwell yet. Last time, my husband tried to use it we discovered that they didn’t operate in Texas. I’ll have to see if they do now. We have used a service like this on the weekend or when my husband knew he had a sinus infection. Its cheaper than going to the dr even with insurance. I think we will see even more telehealth options in the future that will accept insurance too.
I really love how convenient Amwell is. I just used it not too long ago for a sinus infection and my doctor was amazing.
I think the convenience that Amwell offers is really awesome. We haven’t tried Amwell yet, but we may look into it.
