Kids Dash Added to September 21st Run for Science at the Nature Museum

There is no better way to spend a beautiful, crisp fall Chicago morning than immersed in nature in the heart of the beautiful city? On Saturday, September 21st, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will host its enhanced annual 5K Run/Walk, the Run for Science. Museum supporters, nature enthusiasts and citizen scientists will come together to walk or run to support science education in the Chicago area. The race is walker and stroller friendly but also competitive for runners who are looking for a way to ‘warm up’ for the Chicago Marathon.

Each Run for Science participant will be entered in a raffle to win two United Airlines tickets and will receive a race shirt and more. Free food and drink will be available for post-race refreshments. Check http://www.naturemuseum.org/rs for additional updates and announcements.

Best of all, when the race is over the Museum will open its doors free of charge for participants to enjoy a fabulous day full of urban nature. Run for Science participants will be the first to explore Animal Secrets, a brand new exhibition that uses imaginative role-play and hands-on, interactive activities, that view nature from an animal’s point of view. The exhibit is divided into sections, including a stream, meadow woodland, cave and naturalists’ tent, to portray the types of habitats seen throughout Illinois. Live animals from the Nature Museum’s Living Collections such as salamanders, turtles, fish and snakes will be featured, as will informative displays and specimens from the Chicago Academy of Sciences Collections.
