This post is in partnership with Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. Meals and tickets were provided. All opinions and photographs are my own.
Have you been to Holiday World? Opening its doors in 1946, this theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana has evolved over the years with holiday themed sections. Their claim to fame is unlimited soft drinks and a wooden roller coaster.
Splashin’ Safari, the water park at Holiday World, spans 40 acres and includes two wave pools, three water coasters, a lazy river, family raft rides, water slides, and provides guests with unlimited free sunscreen on-site.
My family and I had the opportunity to experience their new family coaster, Good Gravy! This first-ever family roller coaster is a 1,500 wild ride that travels you up to 7 stories. Good gravy!
We also had the time of our lives at other popular attractions at the park. We were treated to a complimentary breakfast at their newly opened coffee shop, The Perky Turkey, and enjoyed a catered lunch in the Good Old Days Picnic Grove. To cap off the day, we were among the first to see the new Holidays in the Sky drone show at an exclusive Dessert Party!
Preparing for a Trip to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari
Choose the Right Date
Selecting the right date can make a significant difference in your experience. Weekdays, especially outside of peak summer months, tend to be less crowded. Check the park’s calendar for special events and operating hours to optimize your visit.
Purchase Tickets in Advance
Buying tickets online can save time and sometimes money. Consider exploring combo deals or season passes if you plan to visit multiple times.
Research the Park Layout
Familiarize yourself with the park map available on the Holiday World website. This will help you plan your day, identify key attractions, and locate amenities like restrooms and dining areas.
Packing Essentials
Comfortable Clothing
Dress for the weather and comfort. Light, breathable clothing is ideal for hot summer days, while layers might be necessary for cooler mornings and evenings. Don’t forget hats and sunglasses for sun protection.
Swimwear and Towels
Splashin’ Safari is a major highlight, so pack swimsuits for everyone. Quick-dry materials are best. Bring towels, although the park has rentals if you prefer to travel lighter.
Footwear
Wear comfortable walking shoes for the amusement park. Water shoes are recommended for the water park to protect your feet on hot surfaces and slippery areas.
Sun Protection
Sunscreen is a must. Apply it before you enter the park and reapply throughout the day. A high SPF, water-resistant sunscreen is ideal. Sunglasses and hats will also help protect against the sun.
Hydration and Snacks
While the park has plenty of dining options, bringing your own water bottles can help you stay hydrated throughout the day. There are drink stations available for refills. Packing some snacks, especially for young children, can be helpful to keep energy levels up.
Waterproof Bag
Store your valuables, including phones, wallets, and cameras, in a waterproof bag or pouch. This is especially useful in the water park to keep your belongings dry and secure.
Maximizing Your Park Experience
Arrive Early
Getting to the park early can help you secure good parking and beat the crowds to popular rides. This is especially beneficial for high-demand attractions.
Use Lockers
Holiday World offers locker rentals, which can be very convenient for storing extra clothes, towels, and other items you don’t want to carry around all day.
Plan for Breaks
Both parks are extensive, and taking breaks is crucial to avoid exhaustion, especially with young children. Take advantage of shaded areas and indoor attractions to rest.
Take Advantage of Free Amenities
Holiday World is known for offering free soft drinks, sunscreen, and Wi-Fi. Utilize these amenities to save money and enhance your experience.
Special Considerations for Families with Young Children
Strollers
Holiday World is stroller-friendly, and renting a stroller at the park can save you from lugging one from home. If you bring your own, make sure it’s compact and easy to maneuver.
Child Safety
Write your contact information on a piece of paper and tuck it into your child’s pocket or shoe in case they get lost. Take a photo of your child at the beginning of the day to have a current reference for their outfit and appearance.
Kid-Friendly Areas
Holiday World has several areas specifically designed for younger children, such as Holidog’s FunTown and Safari Sam’s SplashLand. Plan to spend time in these areas to ensure your little ones have age-appropriate fun.
Dining and Food Options
Meal Planning
Holiday World allows you to bring in a picnic, which can be a great way to save money and cater to picky eaters. There are designated picnic areas outside the main gate.
The park offers a variety of food options, including gluten-free and vegetarian choices. Check the park’s website or inquire at food stands about specific dietary accommodations.
Budgeting for Food
Consider purchasing a meal deal ahead of time if you plan to dine in the park. This can often save money and streamline the process.
End of the Day Tips
Exit Strategy
Towards the end of the day, consider visiting the gift shops or enjoying a quieter attraction as the park begins to empty out. This can help avoid the rush when the park closes.
Parking Lot
Take a photo of your parking area or note the section. After a long day, it can be easy to forget where you parked.
By planning ahead and packing thoughtfully, your family can enjoy a seamless and fun-filled day at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. With these tips, you’re well on your way to creating lasting memories!
