Summer is in full swing! Everything from my toddler’s surgery and taking a step back from blogging to focus on his recovery last month to an impending move, this summer has been a whirlwind of busyness for us! However, we haven’t let this deter us from enjoying some of our favorite outdoor activities like biking and going for walks.
I can’t help but reminisce about the summer days of my youth. I always looked forward to the summertime when I was a young girl, especially since I lived by numerous sources of entertainment, including a school with a playground, mini-golf course, park, public swimming pool, and several baseball parks. I’d even play with the neighborhood kids from time to time, but there were many times that I enjoyed playing alone. If I wasn’t playing putt-putt or swimming at the local pool, you’d find me rollerskating or riding my bike around the neighborhood. The word bored wasn’t in my vocabulary, because I always managed to find something to do!
Entertainment has come a long way since I was a child. In this day and age, we have become overly dependent on technology as a source of entertainment. I’m not eliminating myself out of the equation! This is why it hardly surprises me that all too often parents are faced with children that would rather bury their heads in a phone, tablet, or computer than to interact as a family.
We’ve all discovered that social media and online games are anything but social—serving. Instead, it isolates many in the real world more than to connect. This digital living is becoming a larger and larger obstacle to family ties each year. I can’t help but find these sad and disheartening since these moments in childhood are irreplaceable. It is effortlessly easy to get caught up in our day-to-day lives, but I strive to not miss these moments with my children no matter how monumental or mundane these moments may be. I cherish their limited years of childhood since I know that someday they’ll be on their own, venturing adulthood.

THIS HAS NOT BEEN A GOOD SUMMER.
I haven’t been doing anything, but I am happy to be with my family so it is a good summer.
I have gone swimming a few times at my grandma’s house, but aside from that I have been staying home. I have watched several shows and movies, read a few books, and I was playing video games online with my friends until I sprained my wrist. I am keeping in touch with loved ones via social media and video chat.
Lots of time in the pool…social distancing
I have gone up north to my moms house and went boating a couple times. Other than that I am working full time.
I haven’t been doing much aside from swimming, having BBQ’s & hanging out with family in my backyard.
It’s been ok, thankfully our neighborhood pool opened up, spending the time swimming, taking walks and staying inside trying to stay cool.
My summer has been lousy. It’s too hot and I have the cut the grass, again.
It’s 80 degrees every day. I’ve been sitting on my patio. It’s really quiet.
This summer does not feel like a traditional summer because school let out two months early. I am sure my kids are enjoying it more than my wife and I are.
We love making slime, gardening and going for walks.
We are spending time at the pool at Lifetime gym when we can. Our neighborhood pool is still closed, unforunately.
