Inspired by Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home by Christopher Gavigan, Jessica Alba attended his book signing, anticipating the opportunity to meet the author. When she got her chance, she asked him if the brand that she was dreaming of, with baby products made entirely from non-toxic ingredients, even exists. He said it didn’t, so she asked him if it would be possible to create that brand. She and Christopher Gavigan shortly launched The Honest Company, a line of wipes, hand sanitizers, baby toiletries, laundry detergents, diapers, and other natural products for the family.
The Honest Company strives on providing products with the safest ingredients, at a shockingly affordable price. You can buy the products individually ($4.95 – $13.95), or you can opt for their bundle packages to be delivered at your doorstep on a monthly basis ($35.95 – $79.95). The Honest Diapers Bundle includes a supply of diapers and wipes to get you through the month, and the Family Essentials Bundle contains a one month supply of non-toxic bath/skin and household cleaning products for your entire family!
Jessica Alba – “As a mom, I know my kids are the most important people in my life,” she says. “I know they are safe when using The Honest Company products, and we want other moms to feel the same comfort.”
Christopher Gavigan – “Parents get a lot of advice about what to feed their children and how to baby-proof their home,” he says, “but many are still completely unaware of the toxic risks posed by everyday basics, like diapers, home cleaners, body washes, and laundry soaps. Yet, there’s growing consensus that some chemicals used in these products are linked to chronic diseases like asthma, ADHD, and even cancer.”
I received a bevy of products, which included the following: laundry detergent, hand soap, 7 newborn diapers, healing balm, shampoo/body wash, and face/body lotion. Their packaging is cute with a capital C, but most importantly, their products surpassed my expectations.
I have tried many “organic” and/or “natural” products that weren’t what they were touted out to be. Proving to be more than pretty packaging, their products are truly made with natural, high-quality ingredients. My top favorites are the shampoo/body wash and face/body lotion. The shampoo/body wash has a delightfully yummy lemon cake scent. While I preferred to use it in my hair, I couldn’t since I’m not fortunate to use any shampoo and have great results, so I used it as a body wash and loved, loved, loved it! My supply of it has depleted since then, but I’m still actively using the face/body lotion. I love to use it on my face, because it gives my skin the moisture that it craves for without causing an ugly breakout in the process. I don’t use it every day, because I like to alternate with other products, such as Jurlique’s Rose Moisture Plus Moisturizing Cream.
I also love their Laundry Detergent, which beautifully tackles stubborn stains, dirt, and food without the use of harmful ingredients. It has a neutral pH (non-irritating to skin and does not discolor clothing). The only products that I haven’t had the chance to try out are the newborn diapers and healing balm, which will most definitely be used after my daughter is born!
