I’ve tried several synthetic air fresheners and home fragrance sprays in the past. These type of sprays smell nice first, but I usually start developing a headache and/or getting nauseated as time passes. Most of these type of fresheners are not good to have around since they bottle numerous harmful substances. These air fresheners include allergens, carcinogens such as acetaldehyde or styrene, hazardous substances such as toluene and chlorobenzene, glycol ethers, phthalates and artificial musk. Even more dangerous, formaldehyde, (known to cause cancer according to the EPA), and benzene (a carcinogen for which the WHO recommends zero exposure), may hang around the air.
