“This fragrance is about my individuality – being expressive and empowering, yes, but also emotional and intriguing. I wear my fragrance, I don’t let it wear me.” –Rihanna
Better late than never, Rihanna joins the long list of celebrity endorsed fragrances. Reb’l Fleur ($30 – $59) reflects her vibrant personality with a bold and luxurious harmony. It’s also glamorous, audacious, and fashion forward as her unforgettable style. Reb’l Fleur was inspired by her grandmother in Barbados who used to affectionately call her Rebel Flower. As of August 2010, Rihanna even had the words “Rebelle Fleur” inked on side of her neck back at the East Side Ink Tattoo Parlor in NYC.
When I first received Reb’l Fleur, I was pleasantly taken back by the beautiful and generously sized bottle. The fragrance is feminine and flowery without being overpowering. I believe that the scent will appeal to all ages since it is youthful, yet mature. It’s certainly the kind of fragrance that would never get boring!
Reb’l Fleur is as much in tune with Barbados-born Rihanna’s roots as it is with the glamorous of her present life in New York City. Created by internationally renowned perfumers, Caroline Sabas and Marypierre Julien, this fruity chypre is joyous yet intense, sophisticated yet marvelously surprisingly. Plump, delicious fruits, red berries, purple plums, and juicy, ripe peaches, make a scrumptious impression. Then the heart opens into a lush hybrid hinting at Island life, subtle yet intoxicating, blossoming with sumptuous florals, a passionate melody of Hawaiian Hibiscus flower, violet, tuberose, and coconut water. The sultry base notes linger on with vanilla, patchouli, amber, and musk.
The bottle is delightfully dramatic as a Rihanna performance. It was inspired by the shape of a stiletto heel, which is Rihanna’s favorite shoe option. The bottle was made feminine with a twisting matte black “ribbon” layered over precious metal, the fragrance appears to glow from within, suffused with a glorious golden aura.
