How to Reduce Indoor Allergens

Some people are affected by seasonal allergies, but I have always suffered from allergies throughout the year since I was a child. Pets, whether they’re a cat, dog, or bird. Ah-choo! Dust. Ah-choo! Household cleaning products. Ah-choo! Pollen. Ah-ah-choo! Suffering from allergies is one of the most miserable feelings in the world, but there are several ways you can help reduce indoor allergy symptoms.

Inspect for Mold

One of the first steps of improving the air quality and reducing indoor allergy symptoms is inspecting for mold. Mold can typically be found on wallpaper, shower curtains, the sink, and embedded within the carpets. It can also grow in drains.

Filter Out Animal Dander

Bali Enjoying the Outdoors

One of the most common pet allergies is animal dander. Allopathic treatments (i.e. conventional medicine) and natural herbal remedies (i.e. milk thistle, dong quai, eyebright, red clover, or stinging nettle) for allergies can alleviate symptoms, but you can also consult with an allergist for the possibility of being desensitized. Meanwhile, a HEPA air purifier will help keep airborne animal dander from spreading throughout the house.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Our immune system is at its best when it is sleep-driven. A lack of sleep can weaken our immune system, causing our allergies to be at their worst.

Stay Hydrated

You’re prone to a dry nose when you’re dehydrated. You can also develop microscopic cracks in the nasal lining, thus making it easier for allergens to enter your bloodstream.

Remove Carpeting

The carpet is full of nasties no matter how often you vacuum. According to the Mayo Clinic, having the carpet removed in your home and replacing it with hard surfaces can make the air quality cleaner and healthier.
