Off to the Races: A Celebratory Menu for Kentucky Derby (The Run for the Roses)

This is brought to you by Foodie.com. All opinions are exclusively my own.

Also known as “The Run for the Roses” and “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”, the Kentucky Derby will be returning for its 140th year on May 2nd and 3rd. Although this prestigious event is best known for thoroughbred horse racing and show-stopping hats, it also has a wide and diverse array of food and beverages that will make foodies rejoice.

Beverages like the Rose Water Iced Tea, Spiced Cider Bourbon, Agave-Sweetened Orange-Orange Pekoe Tea, and Lillet Rose Spring Cocktail, just to name a few, are just as good as the traditional Mint Julep (first introduced in 1939). Tantalizing dishes and desserts, such as the Bourbon Chocolate Bread Pudding, Mint Julep Cupcakes, Bourbon Peach Crisp, Basil Wrapped Stuffed Mushrooms, Vegan Chipotle Stout Chili with Cashew Cream, and much more, are unforgettable for this celebatory day!

  1. I don’t eat much southern food to be honest because most of it is deep fried and really unhealthy. I do like sweet tea, though, and we don’t have much of that here.

  2. Anything withe bourbon, yes please! I was at the Derby in 2012 and was able to attend a special fundraising event called Taste of the Derby and there was so many dishes infused with bourbon, it was incredible.
