Lara Spencer’s Flea Market Finds at One Kings Lane

Good Morning America co-anchor Lara Spencer put her passion for vintage into practice with her new book, I Brake for Yard Sales: And Flea Markets, Thrift Shops, Auctions, and the Occasional Dumpster, a shopping and decorating guide. One Kings Lane is thrilled to be partnering with her on a vignette for this year’s Design on a Dime event to benefit Housing Works and on this special sale of her flea-market finds, all proceeds of which will also be donated directly to the charity.

The sale will be starting on Thursday, April 5th.

I Brake for Yard Sales
Have you picked up your copy of I Brake for Yard Sales: And Flea Markets, Thrift Shops, Auctions, and the Occasional Dumpster? My husband bought a copy for me as an early birthday present, because he knows how much I love going to yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets. By the way, I recently bought the birdcage in the background for just $15 at a yard sale. I decorated it with a $5 bargain find found at K-Mart. I also bought the artificial plant for $1.50 at another yard sale. I was able to find some other awesome finds as well!

Decorating Tip 1:
Group for Impact

When it comes to collecting vintage decorative accessories, Lara Spencer is all about power in numbers. “Scattering collections around a space will make the pieces look like random clutter. Instead, group collections or like objects to create a focal point.”

Decorating Tip 2:
Use Indirect Lighting

Given her day job on Good Morning America, it’s no surprise that Spencer knows a thing or two about good lighting. “Table lamps give off the most-flattering light. Leave your overhead lights low, and look for chic and unique lamps for every table.”

Decorating Tip 3:

Double Up

“Symmetry is stylish,” says Spencer. “If you see two of something, take both! Pairs of anything are almost always better than one.” This decorating rule of thumb is especially key for vintage items, since you typically have only one shot at nabbing pairs.

yard sale finds

I bought this tall shelf for just $25. I’m using it as a corner shelf, and I’ve decorated it with milk glass and a Home Interiors floral plate (bought for $1 at another yard sale). It is one of my top favorite purchases!

I thought this was too cute to pass up for $5! Also, I bought the Emily Post Etiquette book for $1 and the little clock for just 25¢.

I bought this Home Interiors shelf and mirror for only $10! I saw somewhere online where someone was selling theirs for $100. I think it looks wonderful in my living room!

I’m very fond of Old Hollywood. Therefore, I couldn’t resist at buying this Clark Gable picture for $3.
